Joseph C. Angelo began practicing law in New Jersey in 1996 and has been licensed in the District of Columbia since 1998. Since 2008, he has maintained a private law practice in Nutley specializing primarily in complex personal injury litigation, real estate transactions and commercial tax appeals. He was previously a partner at the law firm of  Piro, Zinna, Cifelli, Paris and Genitempo and an Associate at the law firm of O’Meara and Hight, P.C.

Mr. Angelo was the Chief Municipal Prosecutor for the Townships of Belleville, Montclair, North Caldwell and Essex Fells and the Assistant Prosecutor for Bloomfield and Livingston. He also held various municipal positions such as Township Attorney, Rent Leveling Board Attorney, Transportation Board Attorney and Chief Public Defender for Belleville. He was also formerly the Township Attorney and Historic Preservation Commission Board Attorney for Montclair.  

Mr. Angelo is the Chair of the Essex County Municipal Court Practice Bench/Bar Committee. He is the former Treasurer of the New Jersey State Municipal Prosecutors’ Association and a member of the Essex County Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association. He has lectured before the League of Municipalities, the Essex County Bar Association and the Orientation for Newly Appointed Municipal Court Judges. He is a guest speaker at various schools and universities throughout New Jersey and trains newly appointed Municipal Judges. Mr. Angelo served as a volunteer Judge for numerous mock trial competitions throughout New Jersey including the quarterfinal round of the Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Rutgers University and a Juris Doctor from New York Law School.
